Plug the top hole on either side , with jb weld etc. or silicone, and move up to 2" under the pad, if you have a plate on now and can get it up, you will not believe the difference this will make.

Nope no plate lol probably wont happen until after we run the boat all next summer, but plugging the top hole is probably a good idea. We currently have a bit a paint burning off the lower unit right around the top hole.

This week im going to pull the lower mounts on my long shaft parts motor and see if i can make a set up on the lathe at school.

good idea, they are a fairly simple part, looks on the Bobs machine site and you can get an idea as well.
