On the old merc trim cylinders with the remote pump can you heat them up to get the cap off to replace the O rings. Cant turn them off at all with the spanner wrench.

Not sure what your Merc one looks like but I ended up using an air hammer on a Yamaha one recently. Did the trick but left the cap surface a bit ugly.

Thanks for the info going to give that a try tonight. These cyl are from the 70s and have never been apart.

Tried the air hammer. The cap and cyl are like an old couple they have been together to long they won't separate.
Going to look for a trim and tilt off newer 60 merc. Going to need the clamp and swivel bracket to make it work. Would get rid of the hoses
and remote pump.

You could try a Loctite product call freeze and release which freezes the part and allows for penetration to lubricate and release the part. You could also try penetrating oil. If the part is not worth saving it would be best to look around for some others that are second hand.

Thanks for for the info Stephen. Never heard of it.Tried the freeze and release didn't work but it was worth the try. Will come in handy for other rusted parts.
