Interesting question... 30 hp There were only a few... maybe 2...30 hp TBoats. Both were Yamaha triples. One was a Voodoo and the other a Delta. Both ran very well, but were limited by available performance props for that gearcase. I believe both ran stock aluminum props. One owner was going to switch to the 40-50 hp triple Yamaha gearcase which bolts right on and is the same gear ratio as the 30 hp. There are lots of performance props for that model gearcase. Never heard anything new if the switch was tried or how successful it was. GT30 race class runs the Tohatsu 30 hp four stroke and they run low to mid 50 mph speeds. Their boats are shorter in length, but the minimum weight is close to 500 lb. Our composite delta raceboat would be competitive and likely run 50 mph.
40 hp Again not many, but there are a few. There are different makes of outboards. In the 2 strokes the Yamaha triple and the mercury triple perform well as do the Yamaha and Mercury 4 strokes.
50 hp There seems to be only one brand popular. “Yamaha “. The motor is either a Pro 50 2 stroke or a 50 hp 4 stroke. I believe there is one 50 hp OMC triple, but it could have had a sticker change.
60 hp On recreational boats it’s OMC triples. On T750 raceboats it was mostly OMC twin cylinder. I know of one Formula 4 60 hp mercury 4 stroke on a Voodoo.
70 hp OMC triples either long shaft or short shaft. Stock, altered stock or modified.
One reason why engines aren’t updated to newer models is the cost of the new four stroke models.
