A few years ago I had an aluminum boat builder in Ontario willing to build and sponsor an Aussi style race class. Unfortunately the fellow had to decline at the last minute after his business suffered due to Covid.
I have noticed in Stock outboard a renewed push to see pure stock 4 stroke motors in some of their classes.
That got me thinking again about the aluminum dinghy boats. The problem before was you had to modify a stock aluminum boat by adding strength bracing which cost a lot of expense or build a custom boat. I see Marlon boats now has a Jon boat SP12 model that is well braced and could likely handle a 20-25 hp without any additional work.
We had SLT (super light tunnel) a tiller class a few years ago. It raced 40 to 90 hp motors. There was some interest back then of having a smaller motor similar class.
Change is difficult to make especially in boat racing. But I think it is important to look at different ideas.

Any thoughts , opinions or suggestions???

There are always used Jon boats for sale for far less money.
Three cylinder 30 hp short shaft tiller Yamahas have really increased in asking prices, however there are several manufacturers with 25 hp 2 cylinder short shaft tiller models and these motors can be purchased at very low prices.....under $500.00 and there are lots on the market.

Rough looking, but it runs very well with the 35 hp.
