Here is what I would use for a lower unit. Use a nitro case with a low water pick-up nose cone. Get a billet carrier from Mike Hooper to replace the stock carrier. Loan one of the T guys 12 x 25 props. You will need to protect the water pump from the exhaust, so you may need an inner case.

How about Mod exhaust pipes out side of block?...test that at Conservation Park.

I think he prefers to test on six mile!

Kevin may really have something here. Many people would like to run the modern high tech power heads, but, the problem is the 20 inch mids and large gear cases.

I would really like to try a stock 90hp etec powerhead with the adapter plate on a stinger mid and nitro case to see how it performs. I would think it would be close in comparison with a 56 on a Critchfield if propped right. I think the rev limiter is 6200RPM which kind of sucks.

Hoping to get onto lining up and welding the mid later today.

On another note, I got thinking about adapting the older ignition and the amount of work it will be not to mention every block I use would have to first be altered and if a timer base failed, I would have to modify it all before I could use it. Same with a starter. No bolting on parts. I need to hear from some of the fuel injection guys on here for what I need to do a regular FI set-up through the intake. Could I just adapt the stock stator, pic-up, flyweel, TPS, etc. and run a programmable ECU? MegaSquirt seems pretty cheap but I've been told to stay away from them and find a Motec M48 or something similar. I would just put the injectors in the side of the intake. I'm sure the ECU, injectors etc. won't be cheap but I'd like to learn how to set one of these up, and it just seems like it would be so much easier. Way less custom parts. Please educate me guys...

Kevin,
You can go to a Pro Outboard race to see what these guys do with their 850's, etc.

They use MSD ignitions # 42351 with home made timer bases.

You need a ecu that has fully configurable crank trigger, you can use a map sensor and tps sensor as well as setup ambient and water temp sensors, you also going to want multi coil control and configurable dwell control. Holley and Fast both have ease ecus like your friend is talking about but they don’t offer much custom configurations as they are designed to run the V8 engines with a MSD based distributer ignition system.

Some good units are ;
Performance Electronics (This is a new one, they were at SEMA this year and have a really well priced unit with great software waterproof as well)

our mainstay PCM's that I have used on thousands of engine applications are
Motec
Vipec
HKS vPro

You will want to use an new style injector called a BOSCH EV14, they come in a number of different sizes but they are amazing injectors they have changed the injector market, as no one can offer such precise control at small pulse width to large, also atomization is amazing from these injectors. Have a look this 263 hp at the wheels naturally aspirated Honda K24 road race engine, I tuned last week, you can see how the EV14 ID1000 injectors cleaned up the final tune after we put them in for the last runs on the dyno, you can feel the change to how the engine ran with them and you see it in the run data as the run line is much smoother and not jagged as it was with the Deatschwerks 550 injectors.
