My son, Hydroid Jr, had 8' Tiny Titan hydro w 5hp tiller at 7, it's been a slippery slope to his 22yrs now, can drive pretty much anything, racing hydroplane(65mp), Voodoo & Critchfield w 56ci OMC. Good for you for supporting your son's boating interest/passion, having him plan & assemble his ride with your guidance, take ownership/responsibility. Based on our own experience with new era center steer VDoo, my quick suggestion & for others to offer opinions: move fuel cell back under rear deck for several reasons. Namely: to keep it out of direct sunlight/heat/vaporizing gas, open cockpit access behind seat to step into boat & tripping hazard, move weight rearward(although consumable) to reduce wetted surface, option to place another bucket behind driver so he can take friends/passengers out for a spin. However with fuel fill hole mid cell you're limited how far back you can push it & still fill effectively unless you run a fill neck hose/screw cap up through rear deck. Give some thought if you haven't screwed it down yet. I appreciate the advice as this is all new to me. I didnt know where to place it so I probably should have asked around. I can move it back a little bit but not alot due to the battery, the dog legs etc. Thank you! |

"I didnt know where to place it so I probably should have asked around. The small 8lb battery offset from centerline will not create significant imbalance. |

This was the simplest for now. I always wanted it back further but was concerned with the weight. This is as far back as I can go and still fill with a jerry can. I ordered an anti gravity battery as well. This coming winter i think i will build a fuel cell right at the transom with a fill and add the second seat like suggested. He will be 13 next year im sure hes gonna wanna sneak the girls out for a ride https://scontent.fybz2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D472A0A https://scontent.fybz2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D35623B I appreciate all advice as this boat stuff is new to me. Thanks again! |

On almost any planing hull you can just assume that the center of gravity and buoyancy is 60 to 65 percent aft of the bow. https://www.boatingmag.com/how-to/balan ... ight-board |

Well thats a wrap, ready to water test. Coolest thing about this project was def doing it with my son, but also the help and advice I recieved on here. Joined HPBC in October, didnt know a soul, asked a few questions and the help I recieved has been amazing. Greg Keeling, Mike and Doug Winstone, Paul at Top Gun, and so many other on here that provided advice, I thank you. Not only do I value the advice but the friendships as well. Its far from perfect but already looking forward to another winter project, and take what we learned from this one and apply to the next. https://scontent.fybz2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D6CE732 https://scontent.fybz2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D6B51FE https://scontent.fybz2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D6ABED9 https://scontent.fybz2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D2BA699 https://scontent.fybz2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D6BE780 https://scontent.fybz2-1.fna.fbcdn.net/ ... e=5D5F53C1 |
