:D Ahhh, the good old days. Todd was 16 years old in that race running a 14ft Allison, while everyone else ran 13 ft Deltas, Critchfields, Voodoos ETC. Hard to beleive that was 30 years ago.

Todd is racing, Steve Huff, Top Gun must have been sharing a boat with Todd Clarke? Steve's running a red hydrostream. I think that red hydrostream boat and motor are in Gravenhurst. We started to see VooDoos in 1987. Up until 1991 they were not allowed to run power trim. The FE record was close to 70 mph with no power trim. You would also recall that not one boat dominated the FE class. The Critchfields changed the class.

I recall to no power trim rule. They changed that in 1987 or 88. It seemed it was usually a dogfight between Steve Huff, Todd, and Jim Starky. Todd and Jim would swap finish positions, but Steve using that factory Merc 650XS and light Delta always had the edge. We had a blast. I was running SE, while Todd ran FE. We miss the races at Dunnville Yacht Club.

I saw this video and watched some others , figured Todd must have been very young,Used to love watching the races in Dunnville,always wanted to race from watching them, that must have been a top end course compared to what we run now. its to bad it is not as popular as it used to be

Thats right thom...the APBA rules were changed for 1987 for EP class...begining in 1987 you could use power trim and you could run a closed top/closed deck type boat like the critchfield and the weight stayed at 840 lbs. The Critchfield tunnel tops were run in the NOA and down south but 1987 was the first year they were legal in APBA EP class. In 1987 we checked first with the CBF to see if they were going in the same direction on this for 1987. As far as I know our Critchfield was the first one to race in Canada and can be seen in the 87 Dunnville video.Hounddog has been talking about the old Delta boats and I wanted to talk about the Delta in the video. Our Delta #302 was designed and built by Bob Sanders..He built the first ones down in the New Orleans area and then moved to Indiana across from the GW invader factory. Our Delta said S&W Boats on the tag...that S was for Sanders and the W for Wooldrige(George Wooldridge was the founder of GW Invader)Bob Sanders built these for the 49 OMC class.OUR boat was 12ft 10 inches and took advantage of the 13ft plus or minus 2 inch rule.Bob Sanders later built some 14s under the xcaliber name...thanks Jim Starkey
