Not a lot of information on the short Shaft on the web....model is E40XMHS

There is already a tunnel class called F5.

Matt you will find this site interesting.
Remember I told you that Yamaha had several different mid section lengths.
http://www.imemsa.com.mx/pdf/motores/2T/E48C.pdf
You can see the other lengths here......Short Shafts over 16 inches....longs over 22 inches
Notice the E48 enduro does show a short shaft 17 inches?... you should be able to get that mid if you can find the part number.
691-45111-01-4D is the number for the 15 inch

The 40X can be either a normal or enduro short shaft...but it is also over 16 inch as a short.

Hey Don,
the various lengths are done by adding the 2.5" extension to the bottom of the mid. The castings only come in 15 and 20". It looks like there are various driveshaft lengths though. At least that is what I can tell from looking at parts catalogs.

I wasn't able to find a 691-45111-01-4D available from Yamaha Canada or US. But was able to find a 697-45111-01-8D. More on that to come..

Thanks Matt, the 17.5 part number would give you both the 15 mid plus the 2.5 extension piece. The part you did find should be the same 2 pieces only in a different colour. That also explains why those 697 parts are more costly.

Here is the 691 part...they ship world wide.

How risky is buying outboard motors from offshore?

Ron Hill looked into getting either a new or used one. They offered him a used one with free shipping. His concern is same as mine, the bank payment.....I would not do it.....PayPal is OK.
You would need to check Canada Customs to see if you would have to pay duty in addition to the 13% tax. Cost starts to add up with the 79 cent canadian dollar. Likely not a good plan at this time. Even though this is the first time I have ever seen this model, Matt researched thru parts books that the model has been sold in other countries since the late 1990's.

Would this be the same motor as the 40 HP Mariner, 2 cylinder of the 80s?
