I would be worried that customs would not let it in because of emissions

Would this be the same motor as the 40 HP Mariner, 2 cylinder of the 80s?

Totally different motor. The one you mention is a twin carb 36 to 37 cubic inch.

This one is a single carb 42 cubic inch. It looks like PARSUN has copied a lot of this motor. There are lots of parts on ebay that mention both yamaha and parsun in the same listing. Parts for this motor come from different locations in the world. It's hard to tell where the part was originally made and the parts are cheaper than parts for other motors.
It looks like yamaha originally designed this motor to be a twin carb. It has two separate large reed cages and a double carb intake manifold with a single carb mounted on the top with the bottom one covered. The Mercury Sea Pro two cylinder 40 hp is 40 cubic inch with a single carb intake. The two motors likely perform the same....NOW! mount a second carb on the yamaha and it would be a different story.

This parts book was also why I thought the SHORT SHAFT model was new. There are no short shaft parts listed in this parts book.

Anytime we look at 2 cylinder short shaft motors, you really cannot beat the 40 to 60 hp OMC for value and performance!

I wasn't able to find a 691-45111-01-4D available from Yamaha Canada or US. But was able to find a 697-45111-01-8D. More on that to come..M

Yamaha is full of surprises. They made motors for other countries that we would love to have. We have been looking at Enduro models for parts for the 55 hp two cylinder. NOW I find this model.....normal yamaha...short shaft....power trim....it is a 2003-7 model!
PERFECT!!!

Matt told me about this second version of the 40/50 yamaha. The lower unit is different with a better location for the water pick up, it is a turn to shift instead of a push-pull shift, the head is centre plug, the mid is different as are the lower motor mounts. AGREE much nicer than the earlier version.

I have one of those...but a 20" comes with the single ram 4-stroke style trim. I'm making a 15" out of it for future use.
