A friend of mine is interested in getting an STV or Charger STV this style

http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z386919001

I know the molds for the STV came to Canada to build these boats. I also know there are build quality issues with Charger boats in the nineties. I was told that the last year of the better quality Charger boat was 1990. Is this information correct?
Should my friend stay away from this model after 1990? Thanks.

The new boats are built by Tempest....and they are cheap...

I'm not sure when they started....93 might not be the best quality but IF its solid its likely better than what you can buy today.

The oldest Charge STV I have seen is 1987. We have 1990 SK Charger and is is very well built. My neighbour had a 1991 SK Charger and it was poorly built and lasted only a few years. That boat had a DL bottom and even the sides were not straight.

I think 1993 may still be a good one...a remember them being at the boat show in 1993 displayed through the Islington Marine Booth....best just go have a look and see...if the fit and finish is good and all the other stuff you look at in a 20 yr old boat is good...personally I love this hull design...they work very well and with 200 hp, solid mounts and an HP gear case they can run 80+

There's a white and red one on Lake Muskoka, 1987 with an XR2 on it. It is owned by an America fellow who uses it 7 days each year. I think I will have my buddy go after that one.

call SPEEDMASTER! Ted probably knows more about them than the guy who built them!

Let me tap into my psychotic memory here.
Unless there are more than one in that color package with white later model OMC's. That boat was for
sale in 2007 for over $13,000. It was advertised as a balsa boat..... If memory also serves me.. I believe it was owned by a friend or aquaintance of RBT's. I think it ran real high 80's.
BUT....

I also might be wrong. lol.

They look really cool regardless.
