Post subject:  Ultrasonic cleaner
After 2 weeks of smelling of parts washer solvent I've had enough.
Bit the bullet today and bought a 10 liter Ultrasonic parts cleaner.
Not a cheap plastic one, a good one...
4 transducers, sweep-able frequency adjust, heater, all stainless steel construction and big enough to fit a couple of carbs easy.

Testing begins tonight with 2 x 2 bbl. carbs that are plugged solid.
Looking forward to seeing what else this thing will do... Having clean tools might be nice.

We've got one at work...works VERY well. It's the only way to clean the carbs off a 4-stroke.

This is on my "Tools wishlist" cleaning carbs is a chore and i had so much trouble last winter keeping pilot jets clean in my sleds, i think an ultrasonic cleaner would make my life far more enjoyable :lol: :lol:

Ya, it's been on my wish list for a while as well.
Messed around with it on sacrificial parts last night... Impressive.
Will tackle carbs today using 4:1 water/simple green. This is supposed to be the safest solution (other than water alone).
Be a good test as these carbs are so plugged up they'll only run on the choke circuit.

For cleaning out your jets use a set of torch tip files.
The tiny ones will poke through a jet that's plugged solid then you can work up from there.
It's easy, quick and cheaper then an U/S wash tank.

After a good poking soak them in Yamalube Penetrating Fluid...cleans them right up. The U/S cleaner is good for doing carbs with intricate passages...sled carbs are pretty basic in this regard...

that is what iv been doing, i still think it would be helpful i could clean more than just sled carbs. :lol:

Not saying the 30 year old carbs I was working on today couldn't have been serviced the traditional way, but I'm glad I had the ultrasonic today. Parts in these suckers were welded together. Emulsion tubes should drop out, not these. 2 of the 4 did drop out after a 50 minute cycle, other 2 I had to drive out.

Safe to say I know know why this bike never ran for previous 2 owner, carbs were a mess.
Wonder what's next.

Local importer here in Scar. Found them on Kijiji, good guys.
