Ok, I was stupid. should have pinned the carrier in addition to red locktite on bolts.
Looking for 1.62 gears, shaft, carrier etc for Merc 60/52 cu in.
Lost these and #1 prop, Grrr.

Tom, as you know the gearcase is a real problem with the small foot 60/52 cubic inch Mercury. Its difficult to find good used parts and new parts are very costly. I suggest you widen your options and also look for 1:8 ratio. That ratio was on some of the other models.

Thanks for the advice. Hoping to see a few options this week. Been surfacing this one for 6 years, guess I shouldn't be surprised.
Only 1.83 lower I see in the manual is for 40/50 3 cyl.
Big Foot models are 2.31
Regardless of model I'm gonna pin next one as carrier isn't threaded and if nothing presents itself I'll park it or get a different motor. Yamaha or Tohatsu being at the top of the list.

The 4 stroke case is different, but, they also have the same gear ratios and I would think they are the same parts.

Think I'll let someone with extensive lower unit experience tackle that experiment. A man's gotta know his limitations.
If I can't find a direct replacement then I'll go to Plan B.

The Yacko's do very well with their mercs, often winning against sst60 power. They probably have gearcases.

Jim and Kyle started out in Bandit with 40 mercs. The now run 2 of Todd's Aquarius's with modified mercs in x-class the year after we stopped racing and gave our old boat and another sst60 a run for the money, but our old boat prevailed !
