Jeff Titus was very successful running these hulls in the larger classes like SJ. http://i46.tinypic.com/i75x6v.jpg Most do not remember the pickle forks hulls in SE......49 cubic inch in the early 1970's prior to the 1975 nitro case motors. I think the pickle-fork tunnel that Jeff Titus used in the early 70's was a Scat Craft. If I remember Scat Crafts and Kober Cats were very similar. In Canada in the SE class I don't think it was until 1976 that a pickle-fork was used - a Lorne Pinel built SE boat that looked like a mini Milesmaster with a Merc 650XS that John Sherlock drove and set a kilo record with at over 77 mph. I know the first pickle-fork SE boat that Rob & John Scythes built was in 1979, and all of Spike Burn's SE boats were full front. I ran a pickle-fork Seebold- Merc 650XS in 1978 & 1979 and I think mine was built in 1976. Mine was not one of the Race of Champions boats but mine did run in Havasu in 1976. In 1978 most of the SE boats were still full fronts but in 1979 I think we were 50/50 full fronts to pickle forks. |
