Didn't mark run a 60 Etec at Waterford the first year?

Here's the deal with the 40-50-60 Etec. The motors use the same block and lower unit. HP is changed through computer mapping. These motors are capable of making 80HP through CPU. The block is the same one used for years on the 45SS engine and carbed production engines. The only real change is the addition of a CPU and fuel injection. I had a 2006 50HP Etec on a 16' Crestliner Sportsman 16 that weighed about 1000 lbs with me in it. Top speed was 46.4 mph with a 21" pitch wheel at about 5800 RPM. You cannot drop pitch and over rev the engine to pick up speed like you can on carbed engines because of the CPU. Now this engine made a ton of torque and the whole shot was the best out of any engine I had ever tried, mercury, yamaha etc. It ran really well. Go talk to your local marine dealer. Most sell every brand of engine these days and will tell you the differences between them. That's what I did. They had every manufacturer on the floor and I was really skeptical at first til I did more research.

Aren't these a lot more cc's than the 45ss?

The E-TEC is 52 cubic inches
Here is a 4 four stroke race which is not F4..It has 50 hp Hondas and other makes. They have a good boat count and the motors are competitive.

We have tried over the last few years to get a tunnel class going. We thought of a 30 hp class or maybe a 750 class using the T750 motors. A better option maybe to go this way. Based on the video.
12 to 14 foot tunnels
four stroke motors up to 50 hp
2 stroke motors up to 40 hp and 41 cubic inch maximum displacement.
To keep the four strokes competitive we cannot allow the 45 cubic inch OMC or the 43 cubic inch Yamaha and Tohatsu motors in the class.
Mercury made a 40 cubic inch 2 cylinder 2 stroke
Yamaha has a 2 cylinder 36 cubic 2 stroke
The old school guys can play with the 2 strokes and the tech guys can run 4 strokes.
We are lucky to have the Speed Cat molds. They can handle the heavier 4 stoke motors.
The smaller tunnels and run the 2 strokes.

its mainly 30hp engines running in that race. the f550 means 550cc, look at the engines and decals.

why not just a straight e-tec 60 class ? only thing allowed is a prop change.
this would make it fun as people would be paying more attention the the boat hulls and setting it all up.
anyone caught cheating gets banned for life from taking part in racing these motors.
that will stop the cheque book brigade from destroying the class.

The main motor in 550 class had been the Tohatsu 2 cylinder 40 hp. In APBA the class is called Sport C and the same Tohatsu motor is the main motor used in the class. I based my idea on the fact there a lots of motors short shaft both old style and modern in the 30 to 50 hp range. Unless a manufacturer wants to support a race class as they did years ago, it makes no sense having a single motor class to-day.

Just noticed above where some is getting speeds that are not right. 5800rpm 21 pitch and 2.66 ratio dont give 46mph. Try 40 if your lucky. Would like to know what prop your using to get these figures. And what means to measure the speed.

The ratio is actually 2.9:1...and it's heavier than the 60 yamaha 4 stroke which has a 1.85 ratio (which is in a small case already). Etec isn't the future of T Don lol.

the earlier ones were 2.66 to 1.
its the later ones with the almost 3 to 1 ratio, not exactly sure when the ratio changed.
But they must be targeting the pontoons and heavy boats to change to 2.9 -1.
imagine putting a new one on a critch and turning up at a meet to race that

The 60 is going in the wrong direction for sure.
